When we designed Seed's pricing, we made a decision that most startup advisors would call crazy: we capped our founding tier at exactly 1,000 subscribers. No extensions, no exceptions. Once those spots fill, the founding member price of $5/month is gone forever.

This wasn't a marketing gimmick. It was a deliberate architectural decision about the kind of company we want to build.

Why 1,000?

Kevin Kelly's famous essay '1,000 True Fans' argues that a creator doesn't need millions of followers to build a sustainable business — they need 1,000 people who truly care. We took that literally. One thousand founding members, each paying $5/month, generates $5,000 in monthly recurring revenue. That's enough to cover infrastructure costs, fund tree planting, and invest in building the mobile app.

More importantly, 1,000 is a number where community is still possible. We can read every email, respond to every piece of feedback, and actually know the people who believed in Seed before it was proven. That's not possible with 100,000 subscribers.

In return, we commit to building that vision. Every feature decision, every design choice, every dollar allocated — it's all aimed at delivering on the promise you funded. That's a fundamentally different relationship than a typical SaaS subscription.

What Happens After 1,000

Once the founding tier fills, new subscribers join at $8/month (or $79/year). The standard tier includes all the same features, plus carbon offset scaling — meaning if your footprint is higher, we plant more trees to match. Standard members get 1-4 trees per month based on their calculated carbon profile.

We're also planning a B2B tier for companies that want to provide Seed to their employees. One business account could equal dozens of individual subscriptions, and it unlocks aggregate carbon dashboards and ESG reporting. But that's future roadmap — right now, we're focused on earning the trust of our first 1,000.
